Walmart WFS Fulfilment from China (2026): Cross-Border Imports, Prep and What You Own

Walmart Marketplace is the channel a lot of China-based sellers are moving into next, for the same reason they moved onto TikTok Shop: it is growing, the competition is thinner than Amazon, and Walmart has built out the logistics to bring cross-border goods in. If your product is made in China and you want it on Walmart.com, the path exists. What trips sellers up is not the selling, it is the import and prep detail, and knowing which parts are yours to own versus which a China fulfilment partner handles.

This is the 2026 guide to fulfilling Walmart orders from China: how the cross-border import program and WFS fit together, what you set up yourself, and how the Shenzhen side of the operation works.

Quick answer: To use Walmart's cross-border import program you generally must sell through Walmart Fulfillment Services, keep your Marketplace account in good standing, and ship goods made in China, Vietnam or India from Ningbo, Qingdao, Shanghai, Xiamen or Yantian. You own the selling account, WFS enrollment and the customs setup (importer of record and, usually, a US customs bond). A Shenzhen partner handles manufacturing coordination, prep to WFS spec, consolidation and freight.

How Walmart and China fit together

There are two broad ways to get China-made goods onto Walmart.com and fulfilled to US buyers.

The first is Walmart's own cross-border import program. Walmart provides a port-to-door ocean service that moves your inventory from select Chinese ports directly into Walmart Fulfillment Services facilities in the US, where WFS then picks, packs and ships your orders. It is designed to be a convenient, single-provider route from factory to fulfilment centre.

The second is to import the stock yourself, on your own freight and customs entry, and send it in to WFS or fulfil it through another channel. This gives you more control over the freight and timing at the cost of arranging the import leg.

Either way, the China side is the same work: your goods have to be made, inspected, prepped to Walmart's specification, consolidated and put on a ship. That is the part we handle from Shenzhen, whichever import route you pick.

What you own: eligibility and customs

Be clear-eyed about the pieces that are yours, because getting them wrong stalls everything downstream.

Program eligibility. Based on Walmart's published guidance, to use the cross-border import program you must be fulfilling US orders through WFS, have a Marketplace account in good standing, and have your tax profile and billing method validated in Seller Center. Your goods must be sourced or manufactured in China, Vietnam or India, and shipped from the Ningbo, Qingdao, Shanghai, Xiamen or Yantian ports. If your account has under 90 days of sales history, expect a longer review. These terms are Walmart's and can change, so confirm the current version in Seller Center.

Importer of record and customs bond. Commercial imports into the US need an importer of record and, in most cases, a US customs bond, usually a continuous bond if you ship regularly. Who holds that depends on the route you choose, and it is a legal and financial responsibility you arrange with a licensed customs broker, not something a fulfilment warehouse assumes for you. Since US de minimis ended, every commercial import is a proper customs entry, so this matters more than it used to.

The honest line: the selling account, WFS enrollment and the customs setup are yours. A good China partner makes the physical goods correct and gets them to the ship; it does not run your Walmart account or act as your importer of record.

With the account and customs side yours, the China work is where a fulfilment partner earns its place.

Prep to WFS specification. Walmart's barcoding, labelling, poly-bagging and carton rules are its own and differ in the detail from Amazon's. Prep to the wrong marketplace's spec and you get rejections and chargebacks. Quality control before it ships. A defect caught on our bench in Shenzhen is a cheap fix; the same defect caught at a US fulfilment centre, or by a customer, is an expensive one. Our inspection process checks condition, counts and labelling before anything is loaded.

Consolidation and freight. We consolidate stock from multiple suppliers into clean, correctly documented shipments and hand them to Walmart's ocean service or your own freight at Yantian in Shenzhen or the other approved ports. Full container loads and less-than-container-load shipments are both supported.

Yantian is on your doorstep

One practical advantage: Yantian, one of the approved cross-border ports, is in Shenzhen. Consolidating, prepping and inspecting your goods at a Shenzhen warehouse puts them minutes from the port that feeds Walmart's import service. Shorter drayage, tighter control over the handover, and less that can go wrong between the bench and the ship.

An emerging channel worth getting right early

Walmart Marketplace is following the pattern that made TikTok Shop worth entering early: a fast-growing platform investing in cross-border logistics, with less seller saturation than Amazon. The sellers who set up clean prep and import now build a position while it is still uncrowded. The ones who treat Walmart like Amazon and prep to the wrong spec spend the first quarter fighting rejections.
